Spicer’s Farm is legendary in this region and one of the most important sources of local food we have. This farm has contributed to the economic life of Nakusp since 1904 and has been in the Spicer family since 1948. Certified organic, Spicer’s farm is one of the few larger- scale farms in the area. We grow the staples of our diet; cabbage, carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, leeks, beans, winter squash and garlic.
We are certified organic through the Kootenay Organic Growers Society. A major emphasis in our food production is on growing vegetables in concert with our land, water and natural pollinators. Preserving local diversity is critical to our future. As a result of my first-hand knowledge of the devastation created by flooding of farmland when building a dam, I will fight for maintaining all critical farmland in BC.
